Jon Harris has been connected
to the Mercury Theatre Colchester since 1999, both as a
performer and as an actor/practitioner who has led various
workshop sessions within our community program.
I have been aware of Jon’s solo work since he
performed at the Mercury theatre in 1999, where he
premiered his first ‘Unititled’ performance
our small-scale studio. Since then Jon has performed seven times; either
as a solo performer in his own work or as part of an ensemble.
Jon’s work as a writer, performer and director
has developed significantly in the time I have known
him and I would have no hesitation in recommending
his work to other venues of an appropriate scale. The work is always
original, challenging, thought provoking and presented with a unique
brand of humor and in a style that ensures it is accessible and engaging.
It is a shame that we are losing Jon to Australia where he will no doubt
perform his current repertoire and continue to produce new and exciting
work.
The Mercury Theatre was specially targeted by Jon for his final UK performance
of TWO NIGHTS OUT before his move overseas, and I was only too pleased
to support him. His final performance had all the ingredients mentioned
above but also revealed an ever growing maturity and discrimination as
an artist.
I wish him all the success
and luck for the future and look forward to see what
his new life will bring to his work
(and vice versa)!

Jon
has inspired me and given me the confidence to create
my own art. We have worked together on a number of each
other's performances. The fruit of our relationship is
the juxtaposition of the right image with words and action
which create deep emotional responses.

I
have worked with Jon on several projects and found him
to be a creative and challenging colleague. He has worked
as co-director and performer in my productions, and vice
versa. I have found his ideas to be both original and
inventive. This, put together with his energy and enthusiasm,
brings new and exciting life to the somewhat jaded conventions
of theatre, giving them a new perspective which is more
relevant to a modern audience.

FOR JON HARRIS
“Jon
Harris is on a mission to enrich your life.
It is DIY for the soul!”
Mardi Gras Magazine on Jon Harris' Performance at
London's
Institute of Contemporary Art
“[Jon
Harris] possesses an engaging manner and a disarmingly
casual relationship with his audience, which is however
always shot though with mercurial irony… an extremely
engaging show: intitmate, minimalist and with the ability
to take a difficult and potentially alienating theme and
convey it to an audience in a manner that was both comic
and emotive.”
Essex
County Standard
“A
tantilisingly enigmatic performance”
Halstead Gazette
“Honest. Funny. Full of passion. An emotional
rollercoaster.”
